Owen's First Haircut!

Yesterday morning Owen got his first haircut.  Luckily, with Grammy (Susie) as the hairdresser, it was a familiar face & place so Owen did great.  I was armed with some sugary snacks, and Susie cut quickly.  When she was done my little baby suddenly looked A LOT more grown up!  But so handsome too!
"No pictures, Mom!"

Okay, so it wasn't all smiles... we got a few glares!  But all was well in the end.

Look at that handsome boy!

Family Pictures

While we were in San Diego a good family friend offered to take some pictures of my family.  We went a little early and were able to get some shots of our little family too.  They turned out really well and I can now finally update all of the pictures on my wall!  Woohoo!

The 'Up' House

A homebuilder in Herriman decided to build an exact replica of the Disney "UP" House in a new housing development close to our house. Before they put it up for sell they have opened it up to the public to visit.  When my family was visiting last weekend for my cousin's wedding, my mom & I decided to take the little kids and check it out.

There was no detail left out!  There was even a guy sitting on the porch dressed as Carl taking pictures with people.  They even had the mailbox exactly right.  This house has attracted national attention to Herriman.  What a fun addition to our little town!

Notice the replica of Russell's backpack to the left of us!

San Diego Fun

The rest of the time in San Diego was spent visiting friends and family, swimming at the neighbor's pool, visiting the Wild Animal Park (on the hottest day of the year... remind us to never do that again!), and enjoying the beautiful weather!

Owen's favorite part of visiting G&G Urry was Grandma's walker!

We also got to see G&G Fox.  Grandpa treated us to homemade orange julius's after Grandma's delicious Sunday dinner... doesn't get better than that!

Swimming at the neighbor's. We all loved it!

I think this was Brad's "Michael Phelps" impersonation?  Who couldn't love that face!  And that hair!  man, I'm one lucky lady.

Fun on the tram at the Wild Animal Park.   Owen loved looking at & pointing to all the animals.  I loved the mist that sprayed us for those 30 minutes...
"Look Mom, giraffes!"

Owen was mesmorized by the Bird Exhibit.  It is so loud, I wasn't sure how he'd take it, but he just kept pointing at all the birds with big eyes!

(Notice how sweaty/sticky we were!  It was almost 100... not our best idea we've ever had!)
By far Owen's very favorite part of the day was riding the carosel right before we left.  He didn't want to get off!  He would try to watch for Brad every time it came around... and was always about 5 seconds too late.  He smiled the whole time.  That itself, may have made the whole day worth it!

Brad & I went on a date!  Can you tell I was excited?  That doesn't happen very much anymore.  We picked La Jolla, the same place Brad had proposed almost exactly 5 years before.  We had a yummy italian dinner and then walked along the tide pools & beach.  What a fun night!

Beach Week!

We went to San Diego in July to join my family for their annual "Beach Week" camping trip.  Owen & I got to stay for two whole weeks, and it was so nice to have an extended trip and not feel rushed to do so much in just a few days.  We just relaxed most of the time, and I took advantage of my many built-in babysitters!  Brad joined us for the 2nd week, which was at the beach.  I was a little nervous how the week would go, since Owen is only crawling and putting everything in his mouth.  Sure enough-- he loved to crawl everywhere (would have crawled right into the waves if we would have let him) and to eat the sand... but isn't that a rite of passage for every baby.   He had so much fun, and besides the early morning wake up calls, he did great.  We took advantage of the early mornings and took walks along the beach.   Doesn't get much better than that!!
Owen spent a lot of time in the stroller and with this blanket.  Walks along the beach were a morning & evening ritual.

Pretty sure we had only been down by the water for less than 5 minutes before this happened!

Enjoying some water time with Papa Urry

And some chair time with Noni!

Wishing we would let him crawl face-first into the water... sorry Owen.

Just hanging with dad, probably eating gummy worms & drinking Dr. Pepper

The pit was a great idea in theory, gave us about 10 minutes of immobility!

Two of my best friends from high school, both pregnant with boys!

Owen's least favorite part of the day: bath time.  That water was cold!

11 months!

At 11 months, Owen now insists on feeding himself.  It is pretty messy, but so cute too!  He loves being outside.  We try to go on daily walks, and I think Owen may look forward to them more than me!  He is the best walking buddy and hardly ever fusses-- usually is transfixed on all of the sights and sounds around us.  He still isn't walking, but he is standing.  I know it is just a matter of a few weeks before he gets it.

He is the best sleeper-- still takes two 2-hour naps a day and sleeps for 12+ hours at night.  That makes for one happy Momma!  He is so easy going and hardly ever cries.  He doesn't scare easily, just laughs it off.  He loves it when he hears the garage door open, becuase he know that means Daddy is home.  It is his favorite part of the day (and mine too, becuase let's be honest, I'm ready for a little break by that point.)  I am so lucky to be a full-time SAHM to this cute little guy!

Love those baby blues!

So messy-- but look at that face!  Pure joy!
